Trauma Therapy

What is Trauma Therapy?
If we use a stream as a metaphor for our emotional life then the stream is our thoughts, feelings, behaviors that are under our control. Sometimes on the way we encounter different "rocks or boulders” that might be difficult or uncomfortable but we have the control to move through them. The riverbanks are the boundaries. When trauma occurs our “riverbank”/boundary is ruptured, meaning its beyond our control.
Experiences that would affect our "river banks" can be: abuse, accidents, harsh divorce, death, surgery, war, exploitation, abandonment and more. When this happens we can feel- panic, anxiety, deep fear, rage, shock, numb, depression, loneliness hopelessness, inability to make decisions, sleeplessness and more. Some physical signs might be: not being able to sit still, increased heart rate, jittery, drowsy, immobilized, cold, feeling split off from body and more.
Each of us has the innate wisdom to restore inner-balance. In therapy we will work on strengthening this wisdom and will work with the trauma itself in a way that won't be
re-traumatizing. Recovery from trauma means being able to rest deeply- when it is time to
rest, and being able to engage fully- when it is time to engage.
I invite you to contact me at Therapy San Francisco, for a complementary phone consultation at 415-890-6394.
